Chad Postpones Parliamentary Election

Chadian President Idriss Déby Itno has postponed indefinitely the country’s parliamentary election due to lack of resources.

Deby announced the decision on his return from the 28th African Union Summit in Ethiopia further delaying the election scheduled to have been held in May 2015.

When we say we can not have the election, it is because we do not have the means.

In times of low, we can not do anything, and when we have resources, we can hold parliamentary elections.

He also told the media that the fight against Boko Haram is far advanced as the mixed force is gaining grounds.

In addition to the efforts made by our army, the mixed force (composed of Chad, Niger, Nigeria and Cameroon) has reduced the capacity of Boko Haram.

President Idriss Déby Itno also called for a dialogue with the opposition in the country to solve the problems in the country.

They should not be afraid to dialogue with me, I am also Chadian like them. The opposition must stop cultivating hatred that results in dividing the country. Chad does not need this.

Chad is facing the brunt of the fall in oil prices thereby relying on agriculture to support its economy.
